Review and Swatches of Color Bar Lipstick Citrine 040

Though I love Mumbai, one of the sad parts about staying here round the year is, one doesn’t get to experience different seasons. The yearly cycle is Summer-Rainy-Summer-Summer. No autumn or winter or Spring!!! Sad Smiley!!

Rains are almost over and its official time for the autumns. On a typical autumn day I would love to have a scarf/ stole around my neck with a coral top and denim skirt. A pop of orange on my lips and loads of kohl in my eyes!! My air naturally swirling and falling on my face against the strong autumn winds!!! Wow!! I almost sound like a Director of some K JO or Yash Raj movies!!

So the quench for my never ending thirst of colors took me to the Colorbar store while I was waiting for my trousers to be altered in the R City Mall, Ghatkopar. Thus, the purchase was totally impulsive! Though one thing I was sure while entering the store- I will look out for orange lipsticks ONLY.

I tried 4 shades of orange and finally boiled down to Citrine 040.

Company Claims:”Give your lips a soft and smooth look with the Soft Touch Lipstick. Its rich creamy formula enhances the lips, while keeping them moisturized and nourished. With Vitamin A and E and apricot oil, the Soft Touch Lipstick has anti-aging properties that protect the lips from chapping and discoloration. With a unique fig fragrance, the Soft Touch Lipstick is available in classy shades.”

Price: Approx. INR 400 (sorry I forgot and threw the carton away by mistake)

Longevity: 3 years

My Views: Citrine 040 is from the Colorbar’s Soft Touch Lipstick range. The texture is very creamy and glides on my lips. But still use it over a lip balm. I surely cannot comment on its anti-ageing capability. The lipstick does have a very mild fruity fragrance that doesn’t get on to your head. It’s very well pigmented. 2 strokes and you are all set, coverig my dark lips. Ironically, it does settle on my lines.

The shade is bright orange. I would say it’s pretty neon-ish. It might be regarded as too bright by few of us and might by skeptical about carrying off a shade like this. It would invariably flatter fair to medium skin tone. Someone of my shade or darker may look washed off if not teamed up with proper attire. I prefer to customize the shade with other orange based red lipsticks to enhance the orange-ness but maintaining the warmth at the same time.

The lasting power is 3-4 hours and gets washed away after meals. Unlike MAC or Inglot it doesn’t slowly fade into lighter tints. The color is also very transferable when you take tea or coffee sips.

Pros:

  1. Value for money
  2. Extremely Creamy
  3. Easily available

     Cons:

  1. Creamy but not hydrating
  2. Settles on lines
  3. May not flatter all skin tones (this is not exactly a con)

Will I recommend?: It’s a beautiful purely orange shade and a must have for bright color lovers with fair to medium skin tone. Someone of my shade or darker probably needs to tone down the neon-ness, though it’s a completely personal choice. I feel if someone can carry it as it is, then better be it!! Over all Color bar is a good value for money.
